Today after spending a good hour perusing the Christian Living section of BAM! (a book store with a crazy name haha) I finally settled on a book... JESUS IS_. by Judah Smith. Now Judah came and spoke at my college last spring and from what I can remember was awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed him and his thought process, so naturally I thought I bet I will really enjoy this book. When I get "Christian Living" books I am very picky, I don't want to waste my money on a book that will bring me no inspiration that I put down and never return to. I mean business when it comes down to it. Now I sat by the pool of my uncles house and completely devoured the first chapter. It was convicting, informative, and also reminded me of those dear to me who are not Christians that ask me questions or we have talks about sin nature and the scale of sinning. Which happened to be his first topic.

I highlighted and underlined some of the stand out phrases and thought provoking seeds I found in the first chapter as I did devotions that I thought I would share with you!

  • "Christianity is not about not swearing. It's not about not having impure thoguhts. Really, it's not about not at all. Christianity is about Jesus."
  • At the very beginning he is explaining the common misconception on how sin comes on a scale and how we tend to be judgmental on others sins labeling them on alright enough sin to extremely horrible. In response to this made up scale he wrote, "God doesn't share our rating system. To him, all sin is equally evil, and all sinners are equally lovable." I love that last part, all sinners are equally lovable. How gracious and merciful is our God that he loves all sinners equally, how many can say we don't hold grudges or love that one person just a little bit more that others because of something they have done to us. Unconditional love, as stated in my previous post, is such a power thing that we do not deserve... nor have the power to comprehend.  There is always hope.
  • In today's society we have forgotten really who Jesus was, yes we know that he died on the cross for our sins. But we forget that he didn't come to earth to hangout with those classified as good and holy. "But Jesus said over and over that he came for the broken, the bad, the addicted, the bound, the deceived, the lost, the hurting." We are to further his kingdom, not keep others from feeling his love because of their sin... we are all sinners. And I know I can speak personally when sin is a daily struggle for me. You don't wake up and magically do what's right, and that is the misconception for so many. It is a daily commitment to living like Christ. Some days you may fail and others you may succeed, but it's a daily walk that you get to walk with your creator. How amazing is it that we can speak directly to him!?

I am quickly falling in love with this book and I can't wait for chapter two. (I may have taken a little sneak peek!) I highly recommend it if you need new reading material.

He is greater than the world

You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the wold. -1John 4:4

I like reading my bible after work it's like a wind downer of the crazy hectic day that was just thrust upon me. This verse stood out to me as a read for many reasons and I thought it would be great to share and kind of share a small way it helped my trial and troubles.

This summer has definitely been a challenge, a test of my faith and the kind of person I am. I know without a doubt I am a Christian and that I try my best to follow his word, and like a sinner fail at times. It has been a great check point with me, am I being the person I want to be? I found myself disgusted with a friends choices, I couldn't even look at him and I thought to myself how can I shine God's love when it's too much for me... I can't be around him. Then I took a deep breath and thought Brooke what did he do that makes it to where you can't be his friend? Isn't that judgmental. That hit home. The very thing I do not want to be, I want them to realize I am approachable and will listen to them if they choose to come to me. So I was uncomfortable with a choice, we all have sinned and fallen short... and yet God forgave us. Are we not supposed to live on earth trying to be Christ like? Unconditional love is what God gives us, and in return can't we give that to those around us? Lord knows how many mistakes I make on a daily basis and I think of the group of friends I have and how they have stood by me thick and thin through many obstacles. How is this any different?

I can't loose my faith in the world, but at the same time I can't build an allegiance with it either. The fact is, we don't save lives... God does. We can plant the seeds, and He never gives us more than we can handle. Sometimes you just may think you cannot. There is always hope, because we can rely on a God that is good who has mercies that are renewed day by day!  It's amazing to think about: that we have a God who cares so much He knows every single hair on our head, equips us with God shaped dreams so that we can honor Him and further his kingdom, and gives us an amazing world to live in where you can rely promises day after day to trust in Him and His promises and the unconditional love that is renewed daily as well. It's an amazing encouragement to know that that is truth. We have such an amazing God.

That Thing Called A Vacation... A daycation?

Saturday I took my personal day and I headed to Wildwood with my family.
What a tiring day and it didn't even start til 5... and that was just dinner reservations!
We ate at the cutest restaurant by the harbor. I got the
friend seafood platter like the true fatty I am ;) It was
delish, featuring scallops, flounder, and my personal
favorite... crabcake. Not to mention you also got
two sides... I swear this was like Brookie's Paradise,
there was no way I could finish it all.
They also had strawberry daiquiris (don't
worry mine was virgin) but let's just say
I need to go back!
Well then we hit the boardwalk, which is one of my favorite places. As explained in a previous Sunday Favorites post (sorry there was none for last week! Don't worry though, next sunday will be a good edition!) I love boardwalks, mostly because of the piers. Well this one has three, plus two water parks... which aren't as appealing but still worth noting. We had a fun night of rollercoasters, log rides (which featured a cute Under The Boardwalk segment of cartoon teenagers having fun and messing around), and then the ferris wheel my favorite and most hated ride of all time. Heights are not my thing!
Absolutely soaked after experiencing the crazy log flume. Yes I was the girl that
embarrassingly screamed bloody murder until I realized random strangers
were enjoying our pain and we were getting none of their pitty!

The view from the ferris wheel was breath taking as well as the gorgeous sky, God paints beautiful backdrops
for our life don't you think!?

Well that was my weekend, an exciting trip to Wildwood enjoying rides and the simplicities of God's amazing masterpieces. What a lovely world we live in.

So I was jamming out to this song during the car ride home from work... Who Better Than Me (Reprise) ... yep, from The Tarzan Broadway Cast Recording. Geek moment... but in all honesty and Tarzan obsession aside I love this song for so many reasons. It has an amazing beat that automatically puts me in a great mood but it also has a cute message in my opinion.
The reason I love this song? Well it reminds me of all the crazy, kind, and sometimes embarrassing (going to the grave) things my friends have done for me. One friend in particular... poor girl stays with me as a cling to overly dramatic made up crazy scenarios as to why I will be forever alone. Example A: I'm pretty sure a guy once asked about me because he thinks I am so ugly he wants to start a petition to get me banned from my college and the city in which we both reside..... makes sense right?

When I think of all the times they have done something embarrassing (both voluntarily on their own... or with a push) well I get embarrassed for them because it's most likely because of me.. But that's what friends do right!? We stick up for each other, make fools of ourselves together, and we try our hardest to make their dreams come true?

I mean my dearest friend once went through websites after websites to find affordable ticket prices my parents would agree on so my dream of seeing Laura Osnes (and poor girl had to literally run after me to keep up as I ran to the stage door to meet Laura as well). Talk about a good friend, among the other things she's done... some of which for reasons we can not post on social media haha. Too embarrassing for both of us!!

But basically this long, sappy post is to say thank you to all those friends that push me to talk to the guy I like, that endure hours upon hours of me belting showtunes, and that I can proudly call my friend. Thank you.

It also is to prove just how awesome Tarzan is..... Yep.

So good! Answering the everyday question of what is modesty when dealing with a bathing suits? Is the bikini okay? Can you still be cute while being modest?
     So thought provoking.

Totally Addicted

Bow Rehab.
I swear this place should exist, because Lord knows I need to go there asap.
There is just something about a good bow, it's adds just enough girly touch to an outfit. And for me, the part of the paycheck I am not saving for money in the future is being spent of bows.

How many bow earrings do I own you ask? 6
How many hair things do you have with bows on it? (Not including hats) 9
Hats with bows on them? 2 (No clue why that number is so low...)

As you can tell, I have a small issue. But we all have those things that we love to stock up on that make all the difference in our outfits right?

Tell me what your total addiction is!

A day like today

  Today was a great day
It consisted of Disney tunes.
Especially jamming out to Tarzan.
Then came that part when I learned I still remember all the
choreography from when I was in High School Musical. Who knew?
It ended with For The First Time from the broadway production of Tarzan.
That's when you know it's a good day.
Happy Wednesday.

Papa Broom

Tomorrow is my lovely father's birthday.

I'm blessed to be his daughter and to have the kind of father that will look out for me in all aspects of my life. (Like chase away the guys that are NOT good for me hehe) As well as the Godly example of a father and husband he is. The expectations are high boys.

Love you Papa Broom.

Monday giggles

Need a little pick me up since it's a Monday?

New iPhones are Like New Girlfriends

This gave me a much needed laugh after a busy workday :)

Days like today...

Today, today just might have been my favorite day of summer.

Now, imagine... good friends, funny jokes, disney songs, and good conversations.

That was today, and those days are my favorite.

And if I may be honest, this is the most fun and the most at home I have felt here all summer long.

Who says mondays have to be all bad?

Sunday Favorites (a day late)

these are a few of my favorite things.

Welcome to another insight of the mind of Brooke and her favorite things....

1. Cocoa Roast Almonds. Okay these are perfection, I can't explain how unhealthy this obsession was but for a while my go to snack in the middle of a busy school day was a hershey bar with almonds. Shameful, I know. Well I remember being a senior in highschool and my friend was absolutely in love with chocolate covered almonds so while I was on my journey for those, hoping it would cut some of the calories? I found these! It's just lightly dusted with cocoa and let me tell you they solve that craving for a little chocolate!

2. Rain. There is something so peaceful and soothing about a little rain shower, especially in the summer. It's like all the things that have been bringing you down can be washed away, and somehow you are once again seeing clearly! There is a simple beauty in rain.

3. Boardwalk. This has been my favorite summer spot since I was a kid. It's filled with treasures, rides, and amazing food! I recently found a new favorite store there too, it's a cute shop filled with adorable signs to decorate your house with. I have my eye on a cute huge frame you hang pictures up with clothes lines then on the frame it says Beach Memories. Perfect to represent the summers here in Brigantine!

4. Lunch Dates. Lunch dates are a rejuvenating source of spontaneity or planned perfection. I can't explain the level of happy I am at after a lunch date, now this does not mean lunch dates with a boyfriend haha... maybe one day. But I mean quality time with those that mean the most, recently I have had the pleasure of many lunch dates with my beautiful grandmother this summer. Blessed times!

5. Curls, Pink Lips, and Lace. Let's just be honest... I love being a girl! I am all for the girly patterns, pink colors, and lace clothes. The amount of pink, white, and florals in my closet is a bit overwhelming haha. Even a splash like a simply lipstick color added to a mundane outfit and day makes it automatically better. I am all for the girly things in life!

July 17, 2013

It has been a struggle, so often I find myself forgetting that my identity isn't in the clothes I wear, how people view me, or those I keep as company. The fact is our identity is in nothing but Christ. This summer I have used this time for some soul searching: growing closer to God, diving into His word, and making myself into the person He wants me to be. I have all these dreams, and as I had mentioned earlier I was reading a book about God and your God sized dreams. How am I going to accomplish those dreams if I do not trust who I am in Christ? Now don't get me wrong yes the way people view is important, but it's a way to check on yourself. Are you being the person that can be a light, a friend, and encouragement to someone? Or are all you doing is bringing others down?
I have been having a great time diving into truths, having talks with God about the future and the person I am growing to be.
God gives us such an amazing place to have an amazing story he has crafted for each and everyone of us. I can't wait to see how mine unravels, and the story it will become. First I need to focus on the person I should become though, and the identity I have in Christ... no others.

The Water's Rough

As I stared at the ocean today, the water was beautiful... Sparkling. It was extremely hot, so needless to say standing in the water was the only option this morning. As I stood there I would have this reoccurring fear as small waves came towards me crashing in front. I couldn't seem to get my head to wrap around the fact that while the wave was close, I never felt the crash... I only got the calm water that was after the fact. Because even as the wave crashed, eventually it would return into calm water to be enjoyed. And even as it crashed on me, it barely was a threat.... It could be handled. This sparked a conversation with God in which he reminded me, Brooke life is just like the ocean. It's huge, scary, and there's unknown. But see the waves crashing? See the people having fun? That can be you, yes things will be hard.... But there's always going to be a calm after a storm. The lifeguards? It's the Bible, Me, and your prayer. We can help you through those moments of insecurities, doubts, and hardships. Turn to us, as people put their faith in lifeguards when it's time to swim in the ocean.
For those of you who don't know, I can't swim and have a sometimes irrational fear of water. I immediately thought of the time last summer I went swimming (as much as I can) and a wave knocked me under. Sure I panicked, sure I probably cried. But I got back up obviously, and I don't even think I got out of the water after that happen. So why don't I do that about life and the doubts that fill my mind. God is my identity and my lifeguard, and he's yours too. No matter how rough life may get, he's on the stand looking out for you.

July 14, 2013

I hope I can brighten your day somehow! I know I needed this today, it's amazing we have a God on the throne that is always willing to be our strength and protector. He loves us so much, more than we can ever comprehend... that's encouraging.

Please still keep my friend in your prayers, she is doing well but is still in a lot of pain. Hope you all are doing lovely! Have a great rest of your day! xoxo

Sunday Favorites

these are a few of my favorite things.

This one's for the girls, we all know the sight of mascara and pretty lipstick make our hearts stop. Since in the summer I don't wear makeup usually, I have been looking at my makeup bag feeling a little guilty for not using lately. The pretty eyeshadows and mascaras... giving me some confidence to cling to. I thought I'd share some of my favorite things in my makeup bag with you this sunday.

1. Baby Lips Lip Balm. I am a huge chapstick fan, it may be a lame thing to love... but I have tried all kinds of chapstick and I was a huge advocate for soft lips. It used to be all I would use, then shamefully I will admit this I saw on an instagram that Laura Osnes posted that she had received this Baby Lips from a friend. It had always caught my eye when browsing the makeup isles, so with that as a push I finally took the plunge and bought it. It is know all I will use, and no it's not because of Laura, it honestly has the smoothest quality about it. As a person who spends all her time on the beach in the summer, it also has tremendously kept my lips in a great state! Quenched is my favorite, but I want to check out the actual colored ones too. So an update on that when it finally happens!

2. Dream Matte Mousse. I have used this foundation for about four years now. It is my favorite because of the smooth and easy application, as you can tell I am a very texture oriented person... smoothness is key as it is my adjective of the year it seems haha. The coverage is amazing, I don't have to reapply and reapply, one coat and I am good to go. This foundation is a winner.

3. Rimmel London Kate Lipstick. To be more specific... number 111. This year I got really into lipstick but my colors tend towards the pink side of the spectrum. Then I decided, as every girl should have, I need to add a red lipstick to my makeup bag. After days, and I mean days, of searching I found Rimmel Kate's. I love it! I am not a huge red person even to this day, but this is the red I will wear when I am in the mood!

4. The Rocket Mascara. I love this mascara! This is the mascara I use when I am going out and I want to impress. And believe me, it impresses.

5. Victoria Secret Eyeshadow. This is an everyday applied eyeshadow, it can go with any scenario. It can be added to another eyeshadow to add pizazz. I often add it to Mac's hepcat. When I do that, people always comment on my eyeshadow. It is honestly one of the best investments to have, the shimmer in the shadow is basically see through so it can go with anything. On days you want to look like you put effort but don't actually want to, this eyeshadow is the way to go. Well worth the money.

Like A Family

....... Now imagine you get a text from a friend that one of your good friends is in the hospital due to a car accident. Yesterday I spent the day at the hospital with two friends comforting E my lifeguard friend who was in the accident. She broke her ankle, foot, leg, and wrist. She went into surgery this morning. I am so thankful that she is still alive and here with us, I don't know what I would do without her. That phrase is often flippantly tossed around, but think about it. How lucky are we to have the friends we have, those that surround us and give us their love.

It was all I could think of when I was in that hospital. On the doors each one had a quote, hers was about friendship. I almost cried, it was so fitting. I remembered getting the text the night before, Brooke I have something to tell you but you can't freak out or call her... after a shy response of ummm sure? There on my iphone were the words car crash and hospital. I couldn't breathe, hopsital.... was she okay! Is she alive!? But that night when we visited, it was just like old times. Laughing at my natural ability to cry at almost anything, including a bear named Bee Bear, I am ashamed to say. Reading cosmo magazine out loud, and laughing at all the funny confessions. When we're all together it just clicks, we can be ourselves and not be judged.

I am beyond thankful. It really does make you appreciate what is before you.

Please keep my friend in your prayers. I know she will get through this, she is one of the strongest people I know... but that doesn't mean prayer won't help her. Thank you!

A Splash of Happy

There are many things to be grateful for. I have the amazing privilege of having friends that stand by my side, inspirational roles models in my life to look up to, and everyday things turned magical by perspective.

Today. Today was a special day, I love my days off because usually the mean I get part of the day with my Grandma. She is my best friend and in many ways I am a mini her in personality. She is the most inspirational, Godly, and generous person I know and I hope to grow more and more like her day by day. Today I got another lunch date with my amazing grandma, but before that it insisted of some ranting of recent frustrations with boys and life in general and a hangout session with my grandma, cousin, her friend, and myself.

We enjoyed a lunch at my favorite spot, Primo Pizza. Their italian hoagie is to die for and the conversation is even more of a craving. It's days like these that make the summers away from home so worth it. I am beyond lucky to have a Grandma like mine, and so privileged to have the title of her granddaughter.

Celebrating Summer With The Little Things

It's been a wild couple of weeks (I know, I know I have been so bad about blogging recently, I am trying hard to keep it up... who knew summer with no school would be the time to not be able to blog) but anyway a few important events of the summer happened. As I listen to my country hits pandora radio station I know now that summer has really started, it seems I am a huge country fan... but only in the summer. It was good to get started into the routine of summer again, waking up early to get to work... applying all the sunscreen -- it seems like all I do is apply and reapply sunscreen! I have been catching up on my reading (what a nice feeling) I have wanted to read A Doll House by Ibsen for a while now and finally was able to sit down, have the sand beneath my toes and finish a great story. (Loved every moment of the play by the way... highly recommend it!) I have been walking the beach singing my favorite princess tones... The Little Mermaid ;) I work along side with two other theatre majors (something about the beach just draws us theatre majors in evidently) and we are always talking and singing showtunes I love it! I also have had the time to appreciate God's amazing art work, commonly known as the sky! He makes such a beautiful backdrop for all our life stories! And of course, I am getting to spend time with my dog Theo who lives in Jersey!

Then my family came! Which meant mini family vacation filled with Atlantic City, Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville, Godvilla chocolate, and my favorite past time... shopping!
^^Though we fight almost instantly some days haha,
it was so good seeing my sister, I get homesick
^^ Such amazingly beautiful little chocolates^^

^^ how cute is this dress!? Naturally curled hair went with
the occasion of a new dress. Plus I am in love with
the necklace I am wearing^^

Then there was the fourth of july! Yes I did have to work, and it was
crazy! People everywhere, it was also the first time this summer I got yelled at! I almost cried haha. But it was also the first time that summer I saw some familiar faces from last summer, some that I have really missed. At the end of the day I headed to the cove to watch the fireworks with some great friends! It was by far one of my favorite fourth of julys! One I will cherish for the rest of my life!

Then yesterday was the annual Lifeguard Races (my beach one)

here's to great summers for all of us xoxo

Kill Them With Kindness

In all honesty I would have to say my favorite part of my job is the light I can bring on to someones day. Now this light can be very limited, seeing as I am probably the last person any person on the beach wants to see. Between the accidental timing of inconveniently asking someone for their tags as they are just about to sit down and enjoy the book they have been anxious to read or for those who dread to see me because they know you are asking for something they are not something they will buy. The amount of people who fake like they're asleep, curse you out, or blatantly scream at the sight of you and sprint (yes sprint) to the water (this actually happened the other day to one of my coworkers) is insane. But I like to have a positive attitude and a happy spirit when I do ask for the tags. And sometimes the change on the peoples faces when they realize you aren't cruel and heartless, is well heart warming.
The feeling you get saying thank you and have a great day to someone who stopped what they're doing while sometimes holding a crying child to show you tags, is magical. The look of gratitude (usually) on their faces is reward enough. I have actually had some very nice conversations with people on the beach while working, and have even been encouraged by them or on extremely lucky days... I get the chance to encourage someone.

One of my coworkers on her first year got the chance to pray with a lady that was extremely heart broken over her current life.

A lady once asked about my major and then proceeded to encourage me and tell me to follow my dreams, and that it was in no place her right to discourage me.

I love being able to be some sort of light to someones day, even in a simple hello how are you today. I let people know that I genuinely mean it.

What if we all tried to genuinely mean hello how are you and i hope you have a great day?
What would the world look like?

Sunday Favorites

these are a few of my favorite things.

Each Sunday I will get together a little list of some of my favorite things and share them with my followers and viewers!

1. Wawa Coffee. For those of you who have never ever tasted wawa coffee, or anything wawa for that matter, I am greatly sorry. Not to sound like a girl obsessed with food, which let's face it as time will tell I am. I just honestly love wawa coffee! Mocha mint is (in my opinion) the best. Though I am sure other coffee products will be featured in upcoming Sunday Favorites, Wawa is my top favorite.

2. Hawaiian Tropic. Ever since I can remember I have never been a suncreen person. Now before you angrily get out your pitchforks and storm your way over to my house calm down, take a deep breath, and hear me out. I wear sunscreen, always have always will. Granted on somedays I do not wear enough, but I wear sunscreen. I just have not been one to enjoy the act of putting on suncreen, the feeling, and even the smell usually. Those of you know my job requires plenty and plenty of sunscreen and this year I finally splurged and bought that ten dollar bottle of sunscreen and let me tell you... best decision I have ever made. I love it! It's smooth and doesn't have that thick cottage cheese like texture when you first start rubbing it in which most of the common brands have, I have borrowed enough sunscreen from lifeguards to tell you. If you're like me and sunscreen just is not your thing I advise you to give Hawaiin Tropic and a chance... before you scream out of frustration and vow never to go outside again all summer.

3. Time At The Beach. I will be 100% honest growing up I hated the beach. Yes I know with my Dad being a lifeguard and even me working on the beach now... how is that even possible!? Well when you can't swim, are afraid of the water, and hate sand.... the beach seems like a punishment more than fun. But lately ever since I started my job actually, I have enjoyed the beach. The quiet noise of the waves, the friendly feeling in the air, not to mention to cute surroundings (don't act like you don't check out what's around you). If I have had a horrible day at work or just need some friend time, after work I head back out onto the crazy beach... head to Sea Side and hangout with some of my favorite friends.

4. Very Sexy by Victoria Secret. This is my absolute favorite perfume and coming from me that says a lot. I love perfume! When I want a pick me up when I don't feel that pretty in my outfit but I need to go now... I spray this and I am ready to go! Not to mention the amount of boys who have said I smell good... it's a winner in their book too.

5. Michael Kors. With my first paycheck of the summer I bought myself a congratulations gift for surviving the first three weeks of the summer, which are always the hardest. Getting back into the swing of things can be rough for anyone. So why not let Michael Kors be a pick me up!?

Inner Joy

Working on the beach definitely has it's perks you get to basically spend what feels like a day on the beach with your closets friends, a killer tan, and let me tell you the little kids you see that go up and talk to you make your day! The little ones that proudly show you your families tags are my favorite, they are so optimistic and happy to be right there at that moment.
Shouldn't we treat everyday like that, every moment?

So let's unleash our inner little kids and try to find the joy.
it is worth it.
